History Continued:

In 1984-1985, the Arts Council began presenting a limited series of programs and workshops with grants provided by the Texas Commission on the Arts. In May 1985, it assisted with the opening of the Michelson Museum of Art in downtown Marshall. In October of that year, the Arts Council hired Rock Kershaw as its first executive director. Under the leadership of a professional staff, programs were expanded to include a performing artist series (4-7 events annually), single-ticket attractions, a grant program, technical assistance for regional arts and cultural organizations, and an annual membership campaign.

In 1987, a new executive directgor, Jim Bob McMillan, came on board and served until 1992. Lisa Campbell served as executive director in 1993-1994, and Virginia Brown from 1994 to 1996. Clayton Crenshaw held the executive director position from 1996 to 1999. Geary Buxton served from 1999 to 2000. Shannon Howard served as interim executive director in 2000. Joyce Weekly served as acting interim executive director from Nov. 2000 - Oct. 2002. Geraldine Mauthe is currently the executive director serving from Oct. 2002 - present. Joyce Weekly is currently serving as the associate director from Oct. 2002 to present.
